Benjamin J. Allen
Benjamin Joseph Allen (born January 5, 1947) is an American academic who served as president of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) from 2006 to 2013.
==Career==
Allen received his Bachelor of Science degree in business economics from Indiana University Bloomington in 1969 and Master of Arts (1973) and Ph.D (1974) in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.〔〔
Allen then taught at Washington State University from 1974 to 1979 and was a Brookings Economic Policy Fellow in the Office of Transportation Regulatory Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation from 1976 to 1977.〔 Allen joined the faculty of Iowa State University in 1979.〔 In the 1986–87 academic year, Allen was the Visiting McKinley Professor of Economics and Public Utilities at the University of Illinois. Allen then held the Oren Harris Chair in Transportation at the University of Arkansas during the 1990-91 academic year.〔 From 1984 to 1988 then 1991 to 2002, Allen was a professor at Iowa State in the departments of economics and transportation. Allen chaired the Iowa State University Department of Transportation and Logistics from 1984 to 1988 and was dean of the Iowa State University College of Business from 1994 to 2000.
Allen was vice president for academic affairs and provost at Iowa State University from 2002 to 2006, succeeding Rollin C. Richmond, who went on to be president of Humboldt State University.〔(Iowa Board of Regents Minutes ), June 19-20, 2002, pp. 503-504.〕 At Iowa State, he was named the first University Distinguished Professor in Business.
